Who We Are

Nature Travel Specialists LLC is a small company specializing in responsible and active nature and wildlife travel to Australia & the Pacific, South America, Southeast Asia and Alaska. The company was founded by Andrew Haffenden in 2003, who has been in the travel industry since 1986, (and from time to time prior to that), as company owner, tour operator, guide and, back in 1968, chief bottle washer and occasional cook.
How We Operate

We offer completely customized travel, where we put together an itinerary for you with as much or as little included as you want - from just airfare and first and last night hotels, to a full and detailed by-the-minute itinerary, designed just for you. Most of our clients prefer this option, and the costs are similar to most full-service small group tours.

We know about when best to travel, when to avoid traveling, and often the not so obvious things, such as peak wildlife activity times, or school holidays overseas that can overwhelm accommodation (when was the last time you knowingly chose to visit Cancun during Spring Break!).We can also arrange extra activities around the core tour, and make suggestions on what you should see that aren't in a package tour.

How We Travel

Once we're at our destination we prefer to see the best places, and have the best experience. Sometimes this means well out of the way, using whatever accommodation we can find. But it may also mean downtown, and a very nice hotel. Usually it means a mix, with more rustic accommodation away from the cities, and good, convenient hotels in them.
Guiding
Report
We don't believe in sending guides from the US, who visit but a few times a year. Our in-country guides were there yesterday, are there today, and will be there tomorrow, because they live there. We tend to use different guides in different parts of a country, for the same reason. But once again, this is not always the rule.
