A Novel Idea Bookstore

I started the bookstore when I was a senior in college - so the shop and I sort of grew up together. I love being a part of this community. It's especially meaningful to me that people who were first brought into the shop as babies - whom I'd hold while their parents shopped - now come in with babies of their own.

For Kids, we offer a personal touch. We find out what kinds of books they'll love - and make sure each child receives a special handwritten note from our cats! You'll find stickers, pins, home goods & apparel - all featuring original artwork by Arden Ellen Nixon. Below are examples of some of the designs and products available.

Within the continental US, shipping/handling rates (media mail) are $3.99 for the first book & $1 for each additional book. Heavy items will cost more - but we will always try to make you the best deal possible on all orders. We take special care to pack well so your books arrive safely. Bargain Books begin their life in our outside cabinets/carts with a yellow $5 sticker price.

Enjoy the warmth of unique, local shops in our downtown neighborhood. An All-Access Pass offers deals at nearly a dozen boutique retailers who offer jewelry, clothing, shoes, art, home decor, paper crafts, athletic wear and, of course, BOOKS!

A Novel Idea Bookstore will offer a discount on our Book Bag Care Packages, which are reusable tote bags filled with books and goods from other women-owned local businesses like Lulubee Artisanal Chocolate, Bella Spa & Apothecary, Valhalla Bee Farm & Sharon Ohmberger, Ceramic Artist.We'll also have displays of Gifts that are perfect for your Book Club members ~ and/or Stocking Stuffers for family & friends.
