Ballet Hawaii
Ballet Hawaii was established in 1976 as "Friends of the Ballet." Initially it served as the support group to the Honolulu City Ballet whose first Artistic Director was Jim Hutchison. Salaries for the eighteen company dancers and the administrative and technical staff were covered by Federal C.E.T.A. funding.

In 1980 "The Friends" produced their first Nutcracker Ballet. Dame Sonia Arova and Thor Sutowski were hired as choreographer/directors and many of the former Honolulu City Ballet dancers were featured in the production. Principal dancers from the San Francisco Ballet performed the leading roles. Open auditions were held for adult and children's parts and rehearsals were held in the old Kaka'ako firehouse.

Dancing Inside The Box
Report
Ballet Hawaii is pleased to present our new series, Dancing Inside the Box. We have missed being in the studio these past few months. So much of what we do as artists has become modified by having to dance at home. Our Dancing Inside the Box series gives students the opportunity to create dance designed in their own space and helps them to develop their own unique artistic voice.
Nutcracker Camp
Report
Ballet Hawaii considers the safety of its students a top priority and since we are unable to safely offer performance opportunities to our youngest dancers, we have a special Nutcracker option for you. This season we bring virtual Nutcracker camps to our young dancers. This is a fun, safe way to experience the Nutcracker, get into the holiday spirit, and even get a head start on learning Nutcracker choreography for next year!
Ballet Princess Camp
Report
Each day, you will join the Ballet Hawaii teachers for 1 1/2 hours of virtual fun! Our daily schedule will include a ballet class, story time, and fun activities - all from the comfort and safety of your home. If enrollment does not fill, Ballet Hawaii will cancel the camp session and issue a full refund to all registered participants.
