Before starting his own business, Mr. Molina was introduced to credit unions through his work at the pineapple company, which had its own credit union. After leaving the pineapple company and opening a business in Wailuku, Mr. Molina spoke with a director from Hawaiian Commercial & Sugar Federal Credit Union to learn how he could start a credit union in Wailuku.
He then organized a committee made up of Wailuku businesspeople. The committee began meeting and filing the necessary documentation with the National Credit Union Administration. There have been no major changes to the credit union since, except for dropping the word "Community" from our name. The first office of Wailuku Federal Credit Union was housed in the "White Spot Cafe" on Main Street, owned and operated by Mr. Molina.
