During this pandemic, we have learned that many of our youth are experiencing anxiety due to being away from in person schooling. Now that we are going back to school, half of the high school will be new. Our GBA Jr. Coaches' Mentoring Program will motivate youth by matching 9th and 10th grade students with peer mentors specifically trained to serve as role models.
We will emphasize responsibility, the importance of academics, resilience, self care, and not being afraid to ask for help. We will focus on building skills for life and success. Not only will the Academy teach you to become a better player, but we also teach youth to become better sons, daughters, students and citizens. It's not enough to be a good athlete; you must also be an outstanding person in your community. Gil Basketball Academy staffers will take time before, during and after each practice to teach and instill in our youth the principles of being quality citizens!

The Gil Basketball Academy was formed to promote the sport of basketball in East Salinas, as well as the overall development of local student-athletes desiring to compete at the highest athletic levels of competition. GBA offers camps, clinics, and individual sessions teaching athletes the skills and techniques of shooting, passing, dribbling, rebounding, and defense.

The Gil Basketball Academy prides itself on branding our work in the community visually. We have teamed up with local businesses to make our 2 vans, donated by MST, and our 2 storage trailers as moving advertisements. Central Coast Sign Factory has graciously volunteered their services and wrapped all of our vehicles with designs and pictures of kids in our academy.
