St Croix Ballet has dedicated three decades to providing classical ballet training rooted in the Russian Vagonova Method, serving families and students in the St. Croix Valley and eastern Twin Cities metro area. Our curriculum extends beyond ballet to include character, modern, and jazz dance, with graduates accepted into prestigious programs at institutions like the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, Joffrey Ballet, and Gelsey Kirkland Academy. We produce two annual ballets, including a 30-year tradition of The Nutcracker, and offer a summer intensive program culminating in a public performance at Pioneer Park.Our founder, Karla Sweeney, established the studio in 1991, leaving a legacy of excellence that continues through our non-profit affiliate, The Karla Sweeney Foundation for the Arts. We pride ourselves on fostering discipline and a lifelong love of dance, whether students pursue professional careers or carry these values into other life paths.

Classical Ballet Training
Our core program focuses on the Russian Vagonova Method, providing rigorous technical training for students aged 5 to adult. Classes emphasize proper alignment, strength, and artistry through progressive curriculum. This foundation prepares dancers for professional careers or recreational enjoyment while fostering discipline and creativity.
Summer Intensive Programs
Three-week summer programs combine ballet, modern, character, jazz, and Pilates instruction with guest artist masterclasses. Participants receive daily technique training and rehearsal opportunities culminating in a public performance at Stillwater's Pioneer Park. The program accepts intermediate to advanced dancers from regional communities.
Nutcracker Performance
Annual December production of The Nutcracker featuring student performers in principal and ensemble roles. The tradition includes community cast members and professional guest artists. Performances showcase elaborate costumes and sets in a family-friendly holiday production attended by over 1,000 local audience members.
Master Classes
Periodic workshops led by industry professionals covering diverse dance styles and performance techniques. Classes focus on specific aspects like pointe work, partnering, or contemporary movement. Karla Sweeney
Founder
Karla Sweeney established St Croix Ballet in 1991 after dancing professionally with Ballet West and touring internationally with Disney productions. Her University of Utah BFA in Ballet and 30-year teaching legacy continue through the non-profit foundation bearing her name since 2016.

St. Croix Ballet has been a big part of our family since my daughter first joined in 2007. Its a positive and encouraging environment for a child to grow up in. Steeped in rich tradition and a welcoming community, St. Croix Ballet is an ideal place for any child learning the fine art of Classical Russian Ballet.
