Donahues Greenhouse
Unique clematis true to name with long lasting dark purple blooms that fade to deep blue with stunning dark anthers. It is a continuous bloomer June through September. Can be trained as a climber or grown as a shrubby ground cover. Our employees love this variety for its vigorous growth habit!. The early flowers open ruby red at the center of the flower, fading to brilliant fuchsia and then orchid color at the edge of each petal.

The flowers fade to lavender with a pink bar. Its dancing white anthers are burgundy tipped. Great repeat bloomer! This clematis can be grown in shade or sun. It has 4-5 flowers of white background with purple veins throughout, turning all purple on the edges. Blooms July, August and September. Very stunning for shady areas!

Retail Spring
Report
In 1972 Dick & Lois Donahue purchased the Lehman Gardens Mums of Minnesota and moved their family from St. James to Faribault. With much hard work and dreams the family has built a successful family business. In the early 1980's the business saw a need in the greenhouse industry for a good quality clematis grower.
Pruning Techniques
Report
This group of clematis produce their flowers directly from old stems and, therefore, pruning must not be done until right after all flowering has been completed. Prune this group by removing all dead and weak stems immediately after flowering. Large established plants over 15 feet are normally not pruned, especially if they are growing in trees.
Home Gardener Planting Info
Report
The best time to plant clematis would be Spring, Summer or early Autumn in a location of 5-6 hours of sunlight. Loosen the soil to a depth of 2 feet. Mix this soil with peat and sand. Carefully set your clematis plant in the hole so the crown is 1 inch below the soil level when the plant was in the pot.
Nursery Production Cultural
Report
Prune Clematis as needed to maintain vigorous growth. Vigorous growth will make the plants more resistant to disease and will also force the root system to grow faster and fill out the container. Leave 2 sets of nodes from the crown on the first pinch. Later pinches leave 2 sets of nodes from the previous pinch.
