It all began in the 1800's, when George Stein opened a bar in Jamaica, Queens and his wife ran their confectionery store on Fulton Ave. Their son George, delivered hot dogs and candy by horse and buggy to Long Island. His son Arthur Stein Sr. opened his first deli in Glen Cove in 1950. And his son's Wayne and Arthur Stein Jr. opened their first deli in Hicksville in 1967.
