Recycle Bookstore is a San Jose institution, beginning in 1967 when Pat and Joan Hayes created the store. It started on First Street, moved to San Fernando, and then settled on Santa Clara street for over 20 years. Eric and Cynthia Johnson bought the store from Joan Hayes in October of 1998 and had to move the store to its current location on the Alameda.

You may bring us books to sell or trade 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. The process is fairly simple. You bring us your books. We look through them and choose which ones we think we can use and give you a cash and a trade amount for the books we do take. Sometimes we take no books, sometimes we take them all.

As a used bookstore we rely on people like you to bring in books for the majority of our store inventory. During our buy-back and trade hours, we will look through books that you may no longer want and decide if we could use them in the store. Of what we can use, we will offer a trade price that you may use as credit for books in store.

Our San Jose store is located on The Alameda, near Race Street. We are across the street from Greenlee's Bakery. The Campbell store is located on Campbell Ave. in lovely downtown Campbell, near 1st Street. Come visit us on Sundays when the year-round farmers market takes place. Please note, we do not have a catalog of our books.
