Acclaimed by PBS television as a "5 Star Resort for Dogs and Cats, " Mountain Run Kennel allows four-legged guests to enjoy a retreat in the country while their owners take a weekend jaunt or an extended vacation. Established in 1980 by Jane Kelso and located on 35 acres in the rolling Virginia Piedmont, Mountain Run Kennel is an easy drive from Washington, D.C., Maryland, Northern Virginia, Charlottesville, and Fredericksburg.

Massage: Good for winding down after a nature walk or group play. Promotes relaxation, reduces stress, and is excellent for preventing strain and injury in canine athletes. The Mountain Run Kennel staff includes kennel technicians who are qualified to administer medicines and supplements sent from home as well as basic treatments such as applying compresses, soaks, changing simple dressings, etc.

At check-in, a friendly staff welcomes you and your pet. They explain a full range of services and activities and go over every aspect of your pet's stay to ensure that he receives the right care. We want to learn as much as possible about your pet's needs, his personality and his likes and dislikes regarding his diet and activities.

There are indoor/outdoor kennel runs with indoor sleeping areas varying in size from 12 square feet for little dogs up to 32 square feet for large dogs. These indoor sleeping areas feature raised bedding boards with sheepskin pads available. Each inside area is connected directly to a 48 square foot individual, outdoor covered run.

Suites for Dogs include a Private Suite, a full hour of Buddy Time activities, and additional short walks every three hours. When you enter the hallway to the suites, you can feel the calm and stress-free atmosphere. Each room offers many comforts of home with heated floors, comfortable beds, couches, and TVs.

The Mountain Run Kennel property consists of 35 acres with ponds for swimming and trails through pastures and woods tailored for dogs to enjoy. Game Time - A one-on-one fun time with a staff member playing ball and retrieving frisbees. Nature Walk + Swim - A walk on the trails in our own woods, followed by a swim in the pond.
