Inner Banks Legal Services is a non-profit organization located in Washington, North Carolina. Our firm provides legal services for people who make too much money to qualify for free legal services, but do not earn enough to pay traditional for-profit law firm prices. Our fees are based on your ability to pay, using your household income and family size to determine a fair and affordable price for legal representation.
Our staff is dedicated to serving Eastern North Carolina. We have two primary practice areas - Bankruptcy and Family Law. We help our clients with Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 bankruptcies. We focus on the Eastern District of North Carolina, and primarily file cases for those people living in the following counties: Beaufort, Bertie, Camden, Carteret, Chowan, Craven, Currituck, Dare, Gates, Hertford, Hyde, Lenoir, Martin, Pamlico, Pasquotank, Perquimans, Pitt, Tyrrell, and Washington.

Family Law

Inner Banks Legal Services provides unbundled legal services for family law. This practice is also known as limited scope representation and allows us to keep rates affordable. In unbundled practice, the attorney and client make an agreement at the start of the case to limit the scope of the attorney's involvement in the case to very specific tasks.

Sarah Beth worked as a bankruptcy paralegal practicing both debtor and creditor rights prior to becoming an attorney. While attending law school, she served as a Judicial Extern for The Late Honorable Randy D. Doub, Chief Judge of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina.

John retired in 2004 from a career that concluded with 31 years in sales and marketing at Ford Motor Company. Since then, he has run a small consulting business and is active in numerous local nonprofits including Ruth's House, Open Door Community Center, and Beaufort County Community College Foundation.

Inner Banks Legal Services' legal fees are set so that we can meet all of our standard operational needs from our fees. However, the need for affordable legal services is great and in order to grow our firm, add additional legal services and support staff, additional capital is needed. Your donation will be used to serve the legal needs of even more people by allowing us to expand our staff and areas of practice.
