Our mission is to provide members with financial services that contribute to their success. The Co-op Credit Union was organized in 1940 when the co-operative movement was going strong in the rural areas. Nine people who believed in the co-op movement and the impact it had on the financial well-being of people met at the Co-op Grocery Store and the idea of a credit union was born.
The Co-op Credit Union of Montevideo was chartered by the Minnesota Commerce Department in April of 1940. The original field of membership was patrons of several co-ops. The original office was in the upstairs of the Co-op Grocery Store where the ceilings were so low that members could not stand up straight.

The Co-op Credit Union is chartered under the State of Minnesota and is a unique financial institution because it is owned by the members it serves. A field of membership is a group of people sharing a common bond, whether it is employment, geographical location or membership in an organization.
Some employers have made it possible for their employee group to become members of the Co-op Credit Union by petitioning the State Commerce Department to be included in our field of membership through the select group rules in the state code.If you meet the criteria for the field of membership you can apply for membership by completing a membership application.

Co-op Credit Union has a full-time position open in the Montevideo office. This member service position is responsible for presenting credit union products and services to members, assisting members in utilizing products and services, and understanding all regulations that apply to the position.
Duties include, but are not limited to: 1 Opening all types of deposit accounts including business, organization, IRA, HSA and other more complex accounts.2 Processing transactions. 3 Assisting members with general member service inquiries in branch, by phone, and through digital channels. The ideal candidate will be friendly, attentive to detail and have a proven track record in providing account assistance and building relationships.

In some cases, identification will be requested for those individuals transacting business with the Co-op Credit Union prior to the effective date of the member identification requirements because original documentation was not obtained with the opening of the account, or the Co-op Credit Union is unable to form a reasonable belief that it knows the true identity of the existing member.
