A sister I know a few months ago pointed out that those who are transitioning to an alkaline diet (plant base, vegan, raw food, vegetarian, fruitarian) can replace the meat that they use to eat (yes that includes fish, lobster and shrimp) with mushrooms. Mushrooms give those who are use to meat and still crave it that chewy feeling, sensation, texture that they may still be addicted to.
