Community Solar Programs Nationwide
Neighborhood Sun was founded in 2016 with a mission to democratize access to clean energy through community solar programs. As a Certified B Corp and Public Benefit Corporation, we specialize in connecting residents and businesses with local solar farms across Maryland, New York, New Jersey, and Colorado. Our innovative subscription model eliminates traditional barriers to solar adoption, enabling renters, homeowners, and low-income households to save 5-30% on electricity bills without rooftop installations. We prioritize equitable energy access through initiatives like our S.H.A.R.E. program, which provides enhanced discounts to qualifying subscribers. With over $8 million in customer savings and 726 million kWh of clean energy allocated, our team combines technical expertise with policy advocacy to advance renewable energy adoption. Our operations integrate with state-supported programs like New York's consolidated billing system and Colorado's Solar* Rewards, ensuring seamless integration with utility providers. We maintain transparency through annual impact reports and hold ourselves accountable to rigorous B Corp sustainability standards.

Services
Community Solar Subscription
Our community solar subscriptions connect customers with local solar farms, delivering clean energy savings without rooftop installations. Subscribers receive 5-30% discounts on electricity bills through state-supported programs while supporting local renewable energy development. This service benefits 80% of Americans who cannot access traditional solar through rentals, shaded properties, or financial constraints.
Income-Qualified Solar Access
The S.H.A.R.E. program provides enhanced solar savings for low- and moderate-income households through income-verified discounts. This initiative reserves 40-51% of solar farm capacity for qualifying subscribers, offering up to 3x greater savings while addressing energy equity in underserved communities across multiple states.
Local Solar Farm Development
We develop community solar farms on repurposed landfills and underutilized sites, generating local clean energy while creating green jobs. Current projects include the 23-acre Platte Community Solar Farm in Colorado and the 32-acre Coxsackie solar project in New York, which also preserves raptor habitats.
Energy Equity Advocacy
Our team actively shapes community solar policy frameworks, including Colorado's SB24-207 legislation and New York's consolidated billing system. We advocate for inclusive energy policies that expand access to 5 million households nationwide by 2025 through federal initiatives.
Environmental Impact Reporting
Through annual impact reports and real-time tracking via the MySolar portal, we document environmental benefits including 726 million kWh of clean energy generated and 515,309 metric tons of CO2 prevented since our founding in 2016.

Awesome organization - SAVE MONEY - while going all solar. No need for solar equipment on your house. You're buying solar-generated electrons from a solar farm in Maryland.

If you got your Electric Car now you can drive around on the same sunlight you are seeing and feeling. Our NS Solar Farm is literally < 10 miles from our home. No tanker truck, no oil pipelines, natural gas, coal. Not even PJM power grid. Your PV powers your EV, and home. We love it.
