With an enrollment of six students back in 1901, JJC became America's First Community College. America's first public community college began in 1901 as an experimental postgraduate high school program. It was the "brain child" of J. Stanley Brown, Superintendent of Joliet Township High School, and William Rainey Harper, President of the University of Chicago.

As the first public community college in the U.S., JJC sends a warm welcome to all of our new students. We're so happy you're here! If there are more students than available seats, a ranking system will be used to determine who gets admitted first (see below). Students who score below 82 will also be ranked.

MyJJC is your one-stop-shop for important information like your class schedule, financial aid, deadlines and more. Your MyJJC account is created 24-72 hours after you apply to JJC. If you have a high enough ACT or SAT score, you may not need placement testing. If you took the ACT or SAT, you must make a request for the testing company to submit your scores to JJC.

Registration is a process for students to sign up and enroll in new courses each academic term. Current students can register online by accessing MyJJC. It is here that you can search for open sections of courses and register for the courses you need. For new students, please visit the Admissions page for information on applying, new student orientation (NSO), placement testing and registration.
