Malibu Makos is the only surfing school permitted and licensed by the LA County Dept. of Beaches & Harbors. Our experienced ocean lifeguards, pro surf instructors, ocean athletes, and educators are committed to providing the best surfing experience. Spend your summer on the beach and in the ocean! We teach children and teens how to surf with an emphasis on ocean safety and environmental stewardship.

Surf Camps

Malibu Makos Surf Club offers surf camps for kids and adults. We're located on Zuma Beach, which offers one of the best spots to learn to surf in Southern California with a sandy bottom and plenty of good waves! Makos is a short drive from Malibu, Santa Monica, Agoura Hills and Calabasas. Designed for surfers of all abilities, beginners or more advanced, Makos Surf Camp is always a fun and exciting way to improve your surfing skills.
Makos Surf Class

Learn to surf or improve your existing skills. Students receive in-depth instruction on wave judgement and selection, pop up and paddling techniques. They will also learn more progressive surf skills such as turning, tube riding, cutbacks and floaters to name a few! Students will also be educated on rip currents, lateral currents, impact zone knowledge and other ocean safety related topics.

Available year-round, we offer one-hour and one-and-a-half-hour private surf lessons for adults and children aged 5+. Our private surf lessons are for one to eight people, so you can surf with your family and friends. Have a larger group? We also offer group surf lessons for nine people or more.

Group Surf Lessons

Catch epic waves! Available year-round, we offer two-hour private group surf lessons for groups of nine people or more (adults and children aged 5+). Get your team, company, family, friends, or other group wet! Fees include all the equipment you'll need (like a surfboard and wetsuit).
While summer surf camp is in session, you can use the equipment all day long which means your group can stay and enjoy the beauty of Zuma Beach while you practice the skills you've learned in class.Extra instructors and transportation for your group are available at an additional cost. Safety is our primary concern, which is why we have a 1:6 instructor to student ratio for group classes.

Pepperdine University Surf Class

In 2003 Pepperdine University contracted Malibu Makos Surf Club to teach a one unit PE class in surfing. Introduction to Surfing became the "best class on campus!" Classes fill almost instantly when registration begins! The programs focuses on the fundamentals of surfing and ocean safety as outlined below.
