The institution is financed primarily by State funds supplemented by contributions from the participating localities. Community College System, is approved by the State Board for Community Colleges and by the Virginia Community College System.

Please remember that Southwest Virginia Community College is not located in the Town of Richlands. The College is on U. S. Route 19 South, six miles south of Claypool Hill, traveling in the direction of Bristol. The street address of the Administration Building, Tazewell Hall, is 635 Community College Road, Cedar Bluff VA.
