Taos Youth Music School is a tuition-free after school music program open to all kids in Taos County in K-12th grades. We have 7 teachers and offer 10 classes/wk. to our young community. The kids find a unique space to grow friendships and a sense of belonging while developing skills that will last them a lifetime.
We create performance opportunities and welcome them to take different classes throughout the week. We have highly qualified, outstanding teachers who are also professional musicians. They bring a passion for music and invigorate music education with hands on creativity, welcome and guided engagement, and bonafide applied theory.

As TYMS is an "after" school program our biggest priority in the K/1 class is FUN! That having been said, students in this class work at developing both skill and understanding in the basic elements of music via experiences in body percussion, speech, singing, movement, games, reading books that can be sung and the playing of pitched and un-pitched percussion instruments.

TYMS intends to continue making music and creating opportunity for children and teens in Taos County. To do so, we need your help. The actual cost to provide weekly music classes is approximately $350 per student.
Because we are a tuition-free program - and intend to remain tuition-free as each semester we enroll students who are unable to pay the nominal ($25) materials fee - we rely almost entirely on gifts from individuals, public and private foundations, and businesses to operate. We actively raise funds in a variety of ways throughout the year, in events and activities that involve our community as a whole, as well as targeted funders.
