Neighborhood
Neighborhood Co-op Grocery leads the way in becoming the first store in Southern Illinois to receive a Silver Level GreenChill certification from the Environment Protection Agency(EPA). Have you heard about our Wooden Nickel program? Quarterly we collect money for two charitable organizations that support people, environment and animals alike.

If there is an organization you'd like to see supported or are part of an organization that needs help, just sign up online! We aim to serve the needs of our owners and patrons by providing wholesome foods economically in the cooperative tradition, in ways that best promote the health of the individual, the community, and the earth.

Your Co-op
Report
Our store is not alone, but it is independent. Co-ops are based on values not unlike those we subscribe to individually, including self-responsibility, democracy, equality, honesty and social responsibility. As members of the NCGA we benefit from being part of a "virtual chain" while remaining locally controlled.
History
Report
The foundation of our co-op is rooted in this community. In 1980, we began as a network of neighborhood buying clubs. We used a 3/4-ton flatbed truck to drive to Madison, Wisconsin to pick up the groceries directly from the distributor. The trip was long and ended with delivering the orders to various people, who would then act as distributors for their neighbor.
Mission & Values
Report
We aim to serve the needs of our owners and patrons by providing wholesome foods economically in the cooperative tradition, in ways that best promote the health of the individual, the community, and the earth. This means we go beyond a traditional business model, putting more of an emphasis on taking care of the region that supports us.
Co-op Board
Report
Our Board of Directors is made up of owners who are elected for three-year terms by popular vote. They operate under the Policy Governance method, using consensus to reach decisions. The board creates and reviews broad goals to provide direction to the general manager, who is then responsible for identifying the steps necessary to achieve these goals.
Jobs
Report
Working at the Co-op is more than the work you do, it's an opportunity to create a positive impact within your community. We strive to create an environment that is inviting, fun, and allows staff to develop lasting relationships with customers and staff members. We pride ourselves in providing great customer service and aim to set a high level of standards for food retailers.
