Waterworks On Wheels
Our highly trained, caring swim instructors use practiced and proven water safety techniques to provide swim instruction to young children to the best of our ability. Desert Swim School (formerly Waterworks On Wheels) was founded in 1985 by Janice Jaicks, owner and president. Janice began offering backyard swim lessons around the city of Mesa, AZ and was the sole instructor.

Now Desert Swim School employs approximately 12 part-time summer instructors for backyard swim lessons serving the entire East Valley, as well as a staff for year-round indoor lessons at three health club facilities in Arizona. Desert Swim School/FitnessFest Janice Jaicks is the owner of Desert Swim School, and teaches lessons every Tuesday at StaFit Health Club Chandler Blvd.
Services
Your Backyard Swim Lessons
Report
Desert Swim School offers one-on-one private swim lessons, semi-private swim lessons or group swim lessons in your backyard. These lessons provide the best atmosphere (your own backyard pool) for social distancing and for your child's progress and development into a safe swimmer. Backyard lessons are especially wonderful for fearful children and children with special needs.
Class Descriptions & Levels
Report
Note: Next level is "no" parent, therefore advancing to the next level requires the swimmer to be comfortable without parent in the water with them. This class is for the child who is not yet able to swim independently. Some children in this class may be able to submerge their face, but it is not a requirement.
Tips For A Good Swim Lesson
Report
Take time to talk with your child about what to expect at swim lessons before coming to class if he/she has a difficult time in lessons or doesn't want to attend. With your encouragement they will be more likely to enjoy swim lessons. We appreciate your business and want your child to get the most out of each class at Desert Swim School.
Water Safety
Report
Another water safety exercise practiced by Desert Swim School is Safety Day. Twice each swim lesson session (4th & 8th lesson), students are asked to bring long clothing to put on over their swimsuits. During the last 5-10 minutes of the lesson, the students will get into the water and swim with clothing on.
Frequently Asked Questions
Report
Desert Swim School packages all lessons into an eight lesson session. This means that every session at every location will consist of eight 30-minute swim lessons. Please refer to our Tips for a Good Swim Lesson page for a short list of items you may want to bring to your swim lesson. We do not charge a registration fee.
