Since 2009, Michelle Sommers has been specializing in offering private and group surf lessons and camps for women of all ages in the Maryland and Delaware beach areas. Learn the basics of surfing in a safe environment with the area's best female surf instructor. Michelle is the only instructor in the area with an agreement to provide surf lessons at Assateague State Park.
Lessons may also be offered in Ocean City, Maryland and Fenwick Island, Delaware as long as sandbars allow for beginners. Surf lessons and camps are dependent on weather & surf conditions, and scheduled around the daily tide each day. Lessons are offered every day of the week in season as long as conditions are safe and fun for beginners.

Lessons are offered May through October, Monday through Friday, and weekends that a camp isn't scheduled. Lessons are never guaranteed, but Michelle will do her best to accommodate your schedule. All lessons are dependent on weather & surf conditions, and any surfing restrictions in place during the summer months.

I did not begin surfing until my late-20s and before my husband and I had our two boys, we traveled to the North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii several times a year to indulge in our passion of riding waves. When I started surfing, I could not find one female surf instructor who I could call. I surfed with a few guys I knew but wasn't really taught the basics regarding safety, technique and proper surf etiquette.

As an instructor, I want you to have the best experience while staying safe throughout the entire lesson. I firmly believe in teaching safety from the beginning of each lesson & these precautions will enable you to build confidence & learn to surf safely. As a surfer, you need to learn & understand the proper surf etiquette before you head out in the line up.
