Three Rivers Legal Services is saddened to report the passing of our former volunteer attorney, John R. Bonner, Sr. John became a volunteer in 2014, shortly after returning to the Gainesville area from his legal career in Clearwater. He assisted in preparing estate planning documents for our clients and joined other volunteer attorneys in providing advance directives at senior centers in some of our rural communities.
John also became a mainstay with our Ask-A-Lawyer team of volunteer attorneys. Grandparent scams happen when a scammer targets an older victim. The scammer often poses as a grandchild who's in trouble and needs money immediately. The scammer will call and say something like, "Grandma - I'm stuck in Mexico and need $1000 to get back home" or "Grandpa - I've been arrested and need $500 for bail money!"

The Home Sweet Home project of Three Rivers Legal Services is designed to educate homeowners about these issues, to help where possible to clear title and home ownership to Heirs' property through representation in probate, quiet title and adverse possession matters. To assist homeowners in avoiding future issues, the project helps with preventive measures including preparing simple wills and deeds.
