Montessori Philosophy

The Montessori educational philosophy, developed by Dr. Maria Montessori in 1907, is based on the tenet that children learn best within what she called "prepared environments, " which support their unique developmental characteristics. These environments contain specially designed, manipulative materials for development that invite children to learn at their own pace according to their own individual style.

Acorn Montessori is an early childhood, independent Montessori School for children ages 12 months through Grade 6. Each classroom is led by a Montessori-certified teacher, supported by assistant teachers. A child's Montessori education begins in the prepared environment of the Toddler House that is uniquely designed as an extension of the home.
Toddler

The educational journey begins with the most important elements -love, caring, respect, and discovery. This is the environment in which our youngest students thrive, creating an unshakable foundation for lifelong learning. To give these new learners the sense of well-being and security they need, we transformed a residence into the Toddler House, which creates a sense of home.
Primary

During the fall and spring, after school workshops may be available for primary age children. Program may include dance, art, science, soccer, cooking, and drama. As young children begin exploring beyond the bounds of their own immediate surroundings, the Montessori Method-and the Acorn Montessori School-are prepared to help nurture their emerging curiosity, their sense of discovery, and their creativity.
