Yorktown Community Nursery School
In the fall of 1950, YCNS was chartered by the Board of Regents of the University of the State of New York. In 1988, YCNS became an accredited school. We're one of the only preschools in Westchester to be accredited by the New York State Department of Education, and we're pretty proud of it!

With the continued involvement and support of families in the Yorktown area, YCNS has grown from a one-group, one-teacher school housed in temporary quarters to its present status as a cooperative school with five groups, 74 students, five staff and its own building. For over 60 years, YCNS has provided area children with their first educational experience outside the home.

How We Work
Report
YCNS is a parent-cooperative nursery school program dedicated to nurturing the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development of your child. YCNS provides a unique opportunity for parents to learn how to effectively support the learning process and understand more about their child by becoming involved in his or her first school experience.
Philosophy
Report
At YCNS, we practice Developmental Education. This style of learning fosters our students' cognitive development in an interesting, meaningful, and fulfilling way. Children are permitted to learn at their own pace through age-appropriate experiences, and to make sense of their world through play. Our teachers' role in the classroom is to observe and respect each child's play and to build that into a curriculum.
Staff

She has a Bachelor Degree in Social Science and a Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education and previously worked as an Intake Coordinator at a Community Residence, a Childbirth Educator and a Parenting Education Group Facilitator.
