Understanding Obesity
Report
America currently has an obesity epidemic. Obesity is now considered the number one threat to public health in the United States. Over two-thirds of adults over the age of 20 in the U.S. are considered overweight, and over one-third of Americans are obese. Of these, more than 13 million Americans are more than 100 pounds overweight, or severely obese.
What is BMI
Report
BMI stands for Body Mass Index, and is calculated by taking into consideration an individual's weight AND height. It is a measurement of a person's weight relative to their height. Because of differences in size and body composition, using only someone's weight is not the most accurate way to determine whether they need weight loss surgery.
Am I a Candidate
Report
If you have problems and are seeking the most effective way to lose weight long-term, then a bariatric surgery such as the Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, gastric sleeve, or Lap-Band may be for you. If you have undergone a previous weight-loss surgery and have developed complications or weight regain, then revisional surgery may be for you.
