UPNS offers a three-year nursery school program for children ages 2 to 5 years old in an environment rich with learning opportunities for their intellectual, social, emotional and physical development. The school is a not-for-profit organization and operates as a parent cooperative with a director-teacher.
UPNS was founded in 1966 to serve families from the New York University community. In 1971, the school became chartered as a corporation by the Board of Regents of the State of New York. Our goal is to provide a nursery school experience that builds on the natural curiosity each child is born with.

Our program is full time, Monday - Friday from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, although some families choose to bring their children home for rest. UPNS gives priority to currently enrolled students, siblings of current students and of students enrolled within the last five years, and children of full-time faculty, staff, and students of NYU.

UPNS's school year runs from mid-September to mid-June and loosely follows the New York City public school calendar. School hours for all children are Monday through Friday from 9am - 3pm, following a transition period with shorter hours at the beginning of the school year. Children bring their own lunch, which they eat in the classroom, followed by rest time.

We value community and trusting relationships at our school. As part of a co-op, teachers, children and parents work together to create a learning environment that respects the uniqueness of each child. Our teachers create a nurturing atmosphere where children play and explore a variety of open-ended materials.

Jackie joined UPNS in 2018 as an assistant teacher in the Orange Room. Previously she worked as an assistant teacher for an age 3 classroom and also served as a nanny for three years. Jackie has dual graduate degrees, as well as certifications in Early Childhood Education and Special Education. As a native New Yorker, Jackie enjoys exploring the city, especially its' parks and museums.
