About Us
Report
A podiatrist is an extensively trained physician that treats ailments of the foot and ankle. Dr. Patricia Antero specializes in the treatment of conditions affecting the foot, as well as expertly diagnosing, preventing, and healing various foot injuries. While many podiatric treatments are simple with minimal recovery, others may require surgery and may require some rehabilitation.
Hammertoe
Report
Hammertoe is the general term used to describe an abnormal contraction or "buckling" of the toe because of a partial or complete dislocation of one of the joints of the toe or the joint where the toe joins with the rest of the foot. As the toe becomes deformed, it rubs against the shoe and the irritation causes the body to build up more and thicker skin to help protect the area.
Ingrown Nails
Report
An ingrown toenail is a painful condition of the toe. Any toenail can become ingrown, but the condition is usually found in the big toe. It occurs when a sharp corner of the toenail digs into the skin at the end of or side of the toe. Pain and inflammation at the spot where the nail digs into the skin occurs first.
Neuroma
Report
Neuroma is swelling or scarring of a small nerve that connects two of your toes that provides sensation. The area may be hot or very swollen and, just as mysteriously, the symptoms can disappear and reappear. At first, the pain is only present when weight bearing in tight shoes. As it gets worse, spontaneous shooting pains, often like electric shocks, can be felt even when you're off your feet.
Neuropathy
Report
Peripheral neuropathy is a disease of the nerves in your feet. The sensation in your feet will decrease and you will notice a lack of feeling in your hands and feet. This lack of pain makes you more likely to get injured without knowing it. Peripheral neuropathy can result from such problems as traumatic injuries, infections, metabolic problems and exposure to toxins.
