Services
The Board
Report
The Directors of Pleasant River Wildlife Foundation bring a diversity of professional accomplishment, educational background and life experience to our Board. The expertise of the Directors is based on successful careers in accounting, real estate law, finance, small business development, regional land trust leadership, corporate management and Olympic level sports competition.
Partnerships
Report
When PRWF was founded in 1998 there were only a few small land trusts based in coastal Washington County: Great Auk Land Trust and Quoddy Regional Land Trust (which merged in 2009 to become the Downeast Coastal Conservancy) and the Downeast Salmon Federation. Maine Coast Heritage Trust, a state-wide land trust and the Nature Conservancy, a world-wide land trust, were also active in Washington County.
Funding
Report
PRWF first formally defined our mission in 1998 when applying to the IRS for tax exemption as a 501(c)3 organization. The mission was and is conservation of wildlife habitat with a commitment to preserving public access. Locating properties in our part of Maine with the desired conservation characteristics was not difficult.
Overview
Report
Some may feel that conservation should take a back seat to America's pressing social and economic challenges. But in the last few decades we've learned an important lesson: our planet is an extremely fragile place. What we thought would last forever can be gone in a heartbeat. We've also learned that the quality of our environment is of paramount importance to our own wellbeing.
Habitat
Report
To protect a species the most important thing to do is to protect the habitat the species needs to survive and thrive. Because PRWF's major goal is to protect waterfowl, shorebirds and woodcock, many of them migratory species, we search out the habitat that they require during the time that they spend in our region of Maine.
