Safety is our primary concern; therefore, in compliance with CDC guidelines and AK state recommendations, Mako's Water Taxi requires unvaccinated passengers to wear a face mask if they plan to ride inside the cabin. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. The longest spit in the world is the Arabat Spit in the Sea of Azov, Ukraine, at 70 miles long.

The Homer spit is four and a half miles long, and is where Mako's Water Taxi has been providing transportation across Kachemak Bay for locals and visitors since 1996. Mako's Water Taxi will take you to some of the most interesting, breathtaking, fun places around Kachemak Bay.

If you don't find the info you're looking for, please contact us and we'll be happy to provide it. Where is your office? As you approach the end of the Homer Spit you will see the Homer Harbor on your left. Look to your left for a bright orange sign: Mako's Water Taxi. If you get to the Salty Dawg Saloon, a wooden lighthouse on the left, you've gone too far.
Bear Cove
Report
Bear Cove sits nestled at the base of the Kenai Mountains, with their snow capped peaks and glacial valleys. Bear Cove consists of privately owned homes and properties, and lies close to the head of Kachemak Bay. It is about an hour boat ride to get there from the Homer Harbor, and once there you are in old Alaska, remote and spectacularly beautiful, and the cell reception gets better every year.
China Poot Bay
Report
Chinapoot Bay is broad, expansive, and shallow. Its an estuary, really, and you'll find a lot of life here. This is due to the very large tides here in Kachemak Bay. During a big tide series (high high tides and minus low tides) much of Chinapoot Bay's mudflats are exposed at low tide. Good for the clammers, bad for the clams.
Glacier Spit/Saddle Trail
Report
This easy hike is well suited for most ages and abilities. The adventure begins with some tidepooling in Rusty's Lagoon. The trail starts with a walk through woods, which open up to glacial moraines that offer wonderful vistas of mountain and ice. Follow the well maintained trail to the lake where the majestic Grewingk Glacier calves icebergs.
