Retrograde Coffee Roasters was founded by baristas Danielle Connor and Casey Lanski in 2014. Back then, we roasted our coffee out of our home kitchen and would truck our coffee cart around to countless farmer's markets and events. Retrograde is going back to the basics of what we love: specialty coffee, community connections and hand made provisions.
Our focus is in the details with our small batch coffee roasting and value-based approach to everything we do. As Retrograde moves forward, we maintain our focus on the details and how it impacts the world around us.

When we began Retrograde, we knew we had to incorporate the same eco-friendly lifestyle we were already living into our business practices. As two California natives, we grew up aware of the effects of climate change and have only seen them worsen during our lives. We've witnessed periods of rolling "brown-outs" in the summer, lived through many dry winters and extreme droughts, floods and fires.

Since we opened the doors to our cafe in Sebastopol in 2017, we have hosted a number of local artists showcasing work in many different mediums and from artists of all ages. In pre-pandemic times, we eagerly awaited the next artist to come hang their work and transform the environment and feeling of the shop with their vision.
