Al Andersen (center) is President of Sandy Valley Avionics. Al also serves as the Repair Station Manager. Al began his aviation career by serving in the United States Air Force as an officer and pilot. After his military service, Al served as a training pilot/APD for Midway Airlines. Al retired from Southwest Airlines where he served as a Captain and Check Airman.
When Al was not flying airplanes, he worked as an A&P mechanic and IA. Over a 30 year maintenance career Al has owned and restored numerous general aviation aircraft. In addition to his FAA certificates, Al has a FCC General Radio Operator License (GROL) with Ship Radar Endorsement. Joe Kuhlen (left) is Vice President of Sandy Valley Avionics.

Report
A IFR test and inspection requires testing of the altimeter, static system, encoder and transponder. However, very few aircraft are exempt from these tests. The aircraft would not have been originally certificated with an engine-driven electrical system or would not have subsequently been certified with such a system installed.
