Update: From 2 stars to 5 stars. First of all, the issues were addressed by the company and they did come out to fix the grout and provided extra stones to accommodate any further water drainage issues (which was causing the stones to go under the fence). I also have to disclose that we were new homeowners when I rated them 2 stars. I have since used multiple contractors for different issues and learned that Sean and co were actually pretty good. I was coming from a place of expecting perfection but thats just not how it works, especially in contracting. Lesson learned and I would highly recommend

Best contracting company we have ever worked with, and we have fully renovated a three-story townhouse in D.C. so we have worked with many, many contractors. Having any work done during a pandemic can be a challenge, but working with Sean and his team was great. We had 4 estimates to replace a 36 year old deck with a composite deck. American Deck and Patio gave us a very detailed proposal with many options which helped us get to the amount we budgeted for the project. A couple of little hiccups were solved quickly and Sean answered any questions promptly. We love our new deck and look forward to enjoying it this summer.

If you want a deck, this is the place to go. Most people who hire a contractor probably expect to have some kind of problem. The job takes longer than expected, the contractor hides things or swaps out materials for cheaper stuff, the workers are problematic or leave a mess.
Sean and his team are the exact opposite of that in every way. They were communicative from the very start. They gave us a great idea of what to expect and a fair price based on what others were offering. He gave an estimated timeline and stuck with it. I got estimates to replace the decking on our existing wood deck from three deck companies with great reputations. Frankly, I was impressed by all of them but Sean from American Deck & Patio really stood out. When he inspected my deck, he talked me through all the things he looks for when considering work on an older deck.
