North Mississippi Rural Legal
NMRLS provides attorney representation and advocacy to ensure equal access to Justice for the most vulnerable members of our society. Through constant training, self analysis, and community involvement, we provide to eligible people, the highest quality of legal and technical assistance, which improves the daily quality of life, while contributing to the attainment of social, economic, and legal equality.

North Mississippi Rural Legal Services (NMRLS) was established as a training program for law students at the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) School of Law. Originally called Lafayette County Legal Aid, NMRLS was considered by its organizers as a combination legal services and teaching program.

ABEC is a project of North Mississippi Rural Legal Services, which is a grantee of the National Council on Aging, to assist individuals.

This film describes the variety of roles that women have played in the creation and establishment of North Mississippi Rural Legal Services (NMRLS). Since 1966, women have worked as community organizers, staff members, paralegals, attorneys, accountants, and managers at the non-profit corporation, and their work has played an invaluable part in providing the citizens of North Mississippi access to justice.
Elder Law Project

The North Mississippi Rural Legal Services Elder Law Project, directed by Attorney Al Cutturini, is one of the special projects developed by NMRLS to provide civil legal services to the elderly (60 years of age and older) of Northern Mississippi. This service is free and provided at no charge. The elderly community of Northern Mississippi is a particularly vulnerable population.
The Earlene Gardner Victims Assistance Program

The Earlene Gardner Victims Assistance Project (EGVAP) was established in the fall of 2017 through funding from the Office Against Interpersonal Violence at the Mississippi State Department of Health. The EGVAP project was created by both North Mississippi Rural Legal Services and MS Center for Legal Services Cooperation.
Mississippi Tax Payer Assistance Project

The Mississippi Taxpayer Assistance Project (MTAP) is a project of North Mississippi Rural Legal Services (NMRLS), and provides assistance to low income and English as a Second Language (ESL) taxpayers throughout Mississippi. It provides low income taxpayers with free legal assistance on federal and some state tax matters.
