Your Trusted Summer Camp Experience Since 1914
Camp Dixie was founded in 1914 by A.A. Jameson, known as 'Pop J,' with just six boys. Over 107 years, it became a cherished tradition for generations of families, surviving significant historical challenges including two world wars and natural disasters. The camp closed permanently in 2021 after two years of operational suspension due to the pandemic, choosing to end its legacy rather than continue under uncertain conditions. Our 350-acre property in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Georgia emphasized a family atmosphere, limited enrollment of 70 campers per session, and a focus on character development through outdoor activities.

Staff lived communally with campers, fostering mentorship and accountability, while maintaining rigorous standards for behavior and environmental stewardship. The camp's rustic setting, including original cabins from 1919, preserved its historic charm while modern amenities ensured comfort.

Certified lifeguards supervised daily swim sessions while campers learned water safety and developed confidence in the water. The lake also served as the primary location for canoeing and kayaking programs, with instruction available for all skill levels.
Archery
Our certified instructors taught proper archery techniques using modern equipment in a controlled environment. Campers learned bow handling, safety protocols, and target shooting skills through progressive lessons. The program emphasized focus, discipline, and hand-eye coordination while maintaining a fun, competitive atmosphere through organized tournaments.
Horseback Riding
The equestrian program offered riding lessons for beginners through advanced riders with professional instruction. Campers learned stable management, horse care, and riding techniques while developing confidence and responsibility. Trail rides through the surrounding forest provided unique perspectives of the camp's natural surroundings and opportunities for quiet reflection.
Nature Education
Guided nature walks explored local flora, fauna, and ecosystems with hands-on learning experiences. Campers participated in outdoor living skills training, including fire-building, shelter construction, and wilderness navigation. The program fostered environmental stewardship through conservation projects and appreciation for the camp's preserved forest setting.
Campfire Programs
Daily campfire gatherings featured themed programs, skits, and musical performances that built community spirit. Weekly 'Council Fire' ceremonies recognized camper achievements and reinforced positive values. Special events like 'Christmas in July' and 'Wacky Olympics' created memorable experiences through creative expression and collaborative games.

I am a Mama Bear and very protective of my family. I sent two teens here this week. I really was fighting myself to do it or not since they have a no cellphone policy. But I did send them and very happy I did. My girls loved it and cryed when we left Friday. I have been praying for them to make good Christian friends and they made alot here and now talk on phone. It really changed their life In a positive way. They cryed in teen ministry and really was touched by GOD. They had a blast and will be going till 12 grade. They even want to work there now to. They liked the food, staff, friends and place
