Acidic liquids (wine, orange juice, tomato paste, a whole lot of other foods and just about all the cleaning products you buy straight off the grocery store shelf) will eat into marble, travertine, limestone, onyx, alabaster and some slates, leaving etch marks. To minimize or prevent this and other kinds of damage to your natural stone surfaces download our free Stone and Tile Care Guide.

There are many wrong ways to clean natural stone, which is why we recommend leaving heavy cleaning to an experienced stone restoration professional. Steam cleaning should be used with care and sparingly, or better yet, not at all. With an abundance of skin cleaning products on the market, from bars and scrubs to foams and gels, knowing which ones to avoid using around your natural stone can be tricky.
