Sheila opened Big Blue Marble in 2005, the same year she gave birth to her daughter Zivia - while it has turned out okay in the long run, she suggests that others perhaps don't try to do both things at the same time. Many years before opening Big Blue Marble, Sheila worked at Politics and Prose bookstore in Washington, DC and she brushed up on her bookstore skills at Rainbow Bookstore in Madison after she decided to open her own store.

Until it is safe to gather again, all of our events are virtual. Most happen as part of our "Mondays @The Marble" series, on Monday nights at 7 pm. For the time being, we are doing events for authors with very strong local draws in our neighborhood - zip codes 19144, 19119, and 19118. We are a hyper-local bookstore, so successful events are ones with significant connections to our customer base.

2020 was, well, 2020. This is our longest bestselling list ever, because many titles all sold the same quantities - 4 titles vying for 9th place, 8 titles for 10th place - so we've included them all. For the first time ever jigsaw puzzles made it into our yearly bestselling this, but that will come as no surprise to you, dear customers.
