Diversified Ink was founded over twenty years ago by tattoo artist, Ed Sheffer. After becoming licensed, he opened his first tattoo studio in Limington. Later, he worked briefly in studios in Portland and Brewer before opening Diversified Ink Tattoo Studio in Bangor in the year 2000. Ed successfully grew the shop over the years, moving from Hammond Street to Harlow Street, and finally to the Penobscot Plaza, where D.I. currently resides.
Thanks to Ed's vision, standards of quality, and his passion to produce cutting-edge tattoo work, Diversified Ink has flourished from a one-man studio to having seven licensed tattoo artists and a licensed body piercer on staff. Our studio is spacious, clean, and welcoming. Each licensed artist works in their own private space and brings a unique style of tattooing to our customers.

The most widely known diseases are HIV and Hepatitis. These are known as blood-borne pathogens because they require contact with the blood in order to spread the infection. This is why we have specific healing instructions to help you keep your tattoo clean while it heals up.
Diversified Ink utilizes one-time-use ink containers and needles, our artists wear medical-grade gloves, and we sterilize all of our equipment in a hospital-grade autoclave to kill any and all pathogens. All of our staff are also Bloodborne Pathogen trained by the Red Cross and licensed by the State of Maine.

For the next two weeks wash your piercing 1-2 times a day with a liquid antibacterial soap. First wash your hands thoroughly with soap, then apply a small amount to the finger tips and work to a lather. Apply lather to the piercing and the area around it, and rotating the jewelry through the piercing several times.

Our artists try very hard to turn them around in a timely manner but in some cases, it may be several days before hearing back from us, due to their busy schedules. Collaboration tattoos are a specialty service offered to those particular clients who are willing to act as a true blank canvas for our artists' imaginations.
