In 1993, a group of senior clinicians founded PCFINE with a commitment to wedding psychodynamic theory with a complementary understanding of how interpersonal systems function. The Institute's approach respects the integrity of individuals while also recognizing the significance of interpersonal, particularly family, contexts in shaping experience.

From marriages and families to social institutions and government, our lives are organized around complex relationships and their impact on us. Enriching the experience of individuals, couples, families and of the professionals who respond to their needs drives the PCFINE mission. Training licensed clinicians in the theories and techniques of psychodynamic couple and family therapy.

PCFINE Equity Initiatives
Report
The Impact of Racism on African American Couples: Implications for Couple Therapy with Marjorie Nightingale, Ph. PCFINE is a non-profit organization.

This workshop is a fundraiser with ALL REVENUES earmarked to fund: (1) reduced tuition for Fellows who identity as Black, Indigenous, or a Person of Color entering PCFINE's 2022 first year Couple Therapy Training Program, (2) a discounted "equity rate" for this workshop (see details under registration rates), and (3) other initiatives to increase diversity, equity, and inclusion at PCFINE.
Psychodynamic Couple Therapy
Report
PCFINE'S faculty takes an integrative approach that weaves together elements of psychodynamic couples therapy, family systems, and attachment theories. From our perspective, each partner's current interpersonal behavior reflects adaptations to their early home environment - in particular, adaptive and defensive strategies developed to sustain connections to early attachment figures and to maintain a sense of one's self as loveable and safe.
PCFINE Committees
Report
While PCFINE offers all its members a vibrant and supportive community, being part of a committee provides opportunities to be even more involved by working in small, friendly groups to achieve the goals of our mission. For more information on how often and where committees meet, please speak to committee chairs listed in the leadership section on this website.
Consultation & Public Education
Report
PCFINE is available to provide pro bono consultation to agencies working directly with families in crisis. A deeper grasp of human behavior, family dynamics, and unconscious motivation and conflict can empower human services professionals to develop more effective and far-reaching interventions when helping families at risk.
