Report
I enjoy caring for a wide variety of orthopedic problems; having a special interest in sports and reconstructive surgery. Shoulder, hip and knee problems are of particular interest to me. You, the patient, deserve unique consideration for your ailment and its effect on your life. No "one-size-fits-all" treatment and rehabilitation plan works for everyone.
Hip
Report
There are a number of conditions around the hip that can be difficult to differentiate. Sometimes it is a process of elimination if no obvious cause is revealed by initial physical examination, regular x-rays and patient history. Hip pain can sometimes result from pinched nerves in the back. Groin pain from hip arthritis is typically apparent on regular x-rays.
Shoulder
Report
Most shoulder pain I see results from rotator cuff problems. Most of the time it's the result of an inflamed tendon that calms down with conservative care. There are four rotator cuff muscles that contribute to strength of the shoulder, particularly with overhead activities. The one that helps with elevating the arm in front of you is the most commonly involved muscle, called the supraspinatus.
Elbow
Report
This is a common disorder that causes pain on the outer side of the elbow. Muscles attaching to that side of the elbow contribute to any strength and grip activities. Sometimes it is so painful that just turning a doorknob can be difficult. Initial treatment aims to relieve strain from the muscle attachment.
Wrist – Hand
Report
Pain along the thumb-side of the wrist can result from inflammation of the tendon that lifts the thumb. There is a tunnel the tendon travels through, and the tunnel can become tight and inflamed, causing pain, snapping, or clicking. The classic scenario is a mother repeatedly picking up her new baby.
