We conduct ecological research to help better understand, manage, and conserve animal populations. Our applied research program builds knowledge about fish and wildlife populations and communities by seeking general solutions to specific management & conservation challenges. Richard Walker's research on oil and natural gas development and flow is out in Journal of Applied Ecology.
Rhainnon Jakopak, a recent graduate of the University of Wyoming, completed undergraduate research projects in both the Chalfoun lab and the Monteith shop. A 7-year long study on sagebrush songbirds nesting on gas fields in western Wyoming seeks to understand why nests fail more frequently in areas with more habitat loss from energy development.
