The Refuge Story
Report
It's often been said that through much prayer the greatest ministries emerge. Well, I can't speak for other ministries, but The Refuge is a direct result of more than a decade of prayer from believers all across the eastern, NC region.
So much could be said about how God has had His hand in building The Refuge, but for now I want to focus on how God united believers through prayer to build a place of Refuge in eastern North Carolina, for His glory.Early in 2001 a great friend of mine approached me about serving on a board of directors to start a Christian camping ministry in eastern North Carolina.

I live in Kinston with my wife Lindsay and our 3 kids. Eastern North Carolina is a great place to raise a family and we love the integrated nature of life in a small town. Working with the Refuge is a great honor. We fully affirm the mission and vision of the Camp and love seeing God transform this place and transform hearts and minds.

This is a bunk style house that sleeps 22. This house is the oldest farm house that we have moved to the camp. The original part of this house was built in the mid 1800's and features a large bunk room that sleeps 16 and a smaller counselor room that sleeps 6. The bathroom has two showers, two sinks, and two stalls.

I was home for a visit and literally saw a sign that said refuge, turn right. So I did. What I found was a camp unlike any I have ever seen. (And Sammy Hudson, a man like you rarely meet...an immediate friend) The 165 acres has a small lake (expansion is beginning on a larger lake) for canoeing, etc. and there is a beautiful pool, soccer field, covered basketball court, and volleyball area for recreation. But the highlight, is the housing! Old homes from the area moved here and restored. Currently, sleeping capacity is 70 in bunk beds. Yes, cabins are updated with heating and air conditioning and
