Family Law
Report
Family law cases are often some of the most emotionally charged and painful legal disputes. In addition, the complexities of family law in South Carolina can often be overwhelming. Whether facing divorce, seeking child custody, or contesting alimony, people without professional counsel can unknowingly jeopardize their case and undergo a drawn-out and costly litigation nightmare.
Divorce
Report
Divorce is often a stressful and emotional process that can be compounded by a number of difficult decisions. Depending on your unique circumstances, you may not be sure which legal ground applies to your case, or you and your spouse may disagree. An experienced attorney can examine the specific details of your case and help you build a defense to move the process forward as painlessly and quickly as possible.
Child Custody & Visitation
Report
Child custody and visitation are often some of the hardest issues to resolve in a divorce. But custody disputes are not always connected to divorce. Sometimes disputes arise between unmarried parents or concern the visitation rights of grandparents. If the parents are unmarried, South Carolina law will typically grant custody to the mother unless she gives up the child.
Alimony
Report
The term "alimony" refers to any kind of financial support that a former spouse gives the other. Lump Sum: If a court decides that one spouse owes the other a certain sum, a lump sum payment is when that spouse takes care of the support obligation with a single check. Periodic Sum: In this situation, a court could decide that one spouse pays a set amount each month until a certain time, such as the other spouse's death or remarriage.
