Modern Age Tattoos

Modern Age Tattoos, opened its doors in 1998 in Nanuet, New York, Rockland County. We are located approximately 30 minutes north of N.Y.C. The shop has an old school street shop feel to it, but in a clean modern environment. The shop has a lot of designs to choose from displayed all over the walls and in display racks, everything from old school designs to new school and everything in between.

I have been tattooing at Modern Age since we opened in May of 1997, and began tattooing in 1985. Being friends with Robert Balter, the owner of Modern Age since high school, I became interested in tattooing myself. I watched him learn over the years, and he helped me a great deal. I worked at his shop in Middletown, N.Y., Skin Images, for a brief time, but mostly tattooed as a hobby and on friends.

My name is Jeff R. I was born in Washington Heights, NYC and was drawing at a very early age. I honed my drawing skills during class while growing up and decided to study art. I wanted to be a cartoonist but later changed my mind. I earned a degree in Fine Arts (graphic design and illustration) from William Paterson University and spent some time at the School of Visual Arts, NYC.

I've been tattooing for 15 years, with the past 13 years at Modern Age Tattoos. I started my apprenticeship in Jersey and worked at that shop for 2 years. I learned the basics of tattooing, which included needle making, color mixing, and machine maintenance. I was able to get return customers and referrals after a short period of time.
