Construction and financing were provided by John S. Abel of New Castle Pa. Upon his graduation from the University of Notre Dame and Duquesne University, his son Edward J. Abel headed a building products company that included the manufacturing of the Banner Mahoning Coal furnace and distribution of various building and HVAC supplies.
The name Banner Supply originated from the fact that they supplied parts for Banner brand furnaces. The business slowly grew locally with the distribution of slate roofing and even nationwide with the distribution of casted furnace parts made in the on-premise foundry. Edward J Abel Jr. and Richard W Abel, sons of Edward J. Abel joined the company after competing educations in the 1960's.
