Mission and History
Report
Community Health Centers of Burlington (CHCB) improves the health of ALL within the communities we serve. In 1971, the People's Free Clinic opened in a tiny storefront in Burlington's Old North End. Announcing "a new kind of health care, " the People's Free Clinic founders envisioned a mission that would make a resonating statement: every person-regardless of age, race, class, or gender-deserves good medical care despite their ability to pay.
Health Care Quality
Report
Since 2012, CHCB has been recognized by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) as a Patient-Centered Medical Home. The PCMH model of care places an emphasis on team-based care, communication, access, and care coordination. It also emphasizes better management of chronic conditions.
This means that at CHCB, we take extra care to track patients who have chronic diseases such as diabetes, or are at an age where critical preventative screenings, such as colonoscopies, need to begin.CHCB's recognition is a reflection of our commitment to improving the health of our community.

Got a filling done here, directly after I was telling them that I couldn’t bite all the way down and it felt uncomfortable. He brushed it off and said eventually you’ll get used to it. I figured maybe it just needed to settle, who knows. Fast forward a year later I have TMJ and daily headaches. I didn’t know. As a professional I would expect THEM to know that if a patient can’t bite down it could lead to that. It causes my muscles to work extra hard in order to close my teeth because it’s closing out of alignment now. I wake up with tension headaches that affect my daily life every single

Doctor couldn't get me in for an appointment for over a week. Not even a telemedecine appointment so here I am sitting in the unknown fighting covid. Great guidance and treatment (sarcasm). I left a voice message for the nurses team in hopes of some guidance but it's been 4 days with no response. Literally the worst. People don't matter here.

Decent care once you're in there, but trying to call and talk to a real person is incredibly difficult and their phone system is just worthless.
Also their staff is terrible at doing anything involving a referral. I wait months and find out that they never referred me or that they have a new referral system where I am supposed to call and make the appointment (full office like an HMO but they don't function that way) but no one ever told me that or gave me a phone number.

This business will act like they want to help you, send you a huge bill you weren’t expecting, ignore requests to be put on a sliding scale and then send your info to a debt collection agency. This is not a business that helps people. They are actively harming people with no attempt to provide options.

My doctor is Dr. Dorwart. I want to start by saying that I have always found her to be kind and competent. I have no issue with the care that I received when I receive care. My problem began when I started having a chronic health issue that required me to be referred for testing at another office. The appointment I had with Dr Dorwart was a zoom appointment, and while I understand why this is necessary unfortunately my issue isn't one that can be diagnosed through a computer, the nerve pain I'm experiencing in my arm is something that requires a physical examination. she listens to my complaints

The entire medical staff you encounter from scheduling to check-out is always friendly, welcoming, helpful, non-judgmental and sensitive to every patient’s needs, for every patient. Yes, at times it can be difficult to directly contact a provider depending on the call, but rest assured you will be triaged and they will receive the message and return your call. Yes, scheduling may be a few weeks out, but only for non-urgent routine checkups (and this is the norm for every primary care clinic in the country!) I have had nothing but good experiences here and feel they are exceptionally competent

This review is for the customer service/billing department only. I scheduled an annual physical with CHCB's South End Health Center location in November 2020. This is a preventative care appointment covered by my insurance at no out-of-pocket cost to me. I made sure to confirm there would be no out of pocket expenses when I called and made the appointment, and I was assured there would not be. As a new patient (and new to Vermont), I had to schedule two appointments; the first as an initial visit, and the second for the actual physical. During the second week in December, I received a bill in the

This place needs different personal and/or directors. I had two ultrasounds done on 12/3 for a large cyst. CHCB received the results on 12/7, and they said they dont have it. Because I haven't heard anything, I called on12/18 NWMC for them to re-fax my results to CHCB, and they did. I have been calling CHCB daily since 12/18, sometimes 2 times a day for someone to call me back about my results and NOTHING!!! No one call, no one email, no one letter. It is more than disrespectful and aggravating for me, the patient. They are leaving tomorrow, 12/24, and pretty much they are not coming back until
