Lot surveys are residential surveys in a platted addition, usually within the city limits. This survey gives the owner assurance of the boundaries. Property corners will be found or set and drawings will be provided. Plot plans are surveys to take to the city when you need a building permit. This will show your proposed house with the lot dimensions, easements, and setbacks (if any).

How can I preserve the location of my property corners after the surveyor has left? After the surveyor leaves try marking your property corner with a t-post. A t-post will preserve the corner for a much longer time than a wooden stake that the surveyor sets. What kind a marker does the surveyor set for the property corner?
