In 1984, the University of Wisconsin-Stout graduate accepted an offer from a fellow Iranian to manage a rug business in Minneapolis. Though initially skeptical, Sam fell in love with rugs, especially the Persian rugs of his homeland. Four years later, Navab Brothers was born. Farzan "Far" Navab caught the "Rug Bug" from his brother, Sam.

A colleague recounts a story about picnicking in the countryside with his grandfather and a herd of sheep.
