Award-Winning Fine Dining in Cape May Since 1976
Mad Batter has been a cornerstone of Cape May's culinary scene since 1976. Founded by Harry Kulkowitz, our establishment began as a vision to create a gathering place centered around exceptional cuisine, artistic expression, and warm hospitality. Over four decades later, we remain family-operated, with Mark Huber and Pam Huber continuing Harry's legacy of excellence. Our team combines generational expertise with contemporary innovation, offering guests a unique blend of historic charm and modern dining experiences. We take pride in curating seasonal menus that showcase local ingredients while maintaining our signature dishes that have delighted patrons for generations. The restaurant's ambiance reflects Pam's artistic vision through mosaic tilework and rotating art exhibits, creating an immersive cultural experience alongside fine dining.

With three generations of family involvement, we maintain personal oversight of every detail, from our award-winning culinary offerings to the live music performances that enhance our guests' evenings. Our commitment to hospitality extends to the Carroll Villa Hotel, where we provide breakfast vouchers and exclusive dining discounts for overnight guests. Through decades of service, we've cultivated a reputation for consistency, quality, and genuine customer care that defines the Mad Batter experience.

Food is very delicious. The vibe check is right! The music is welcoming and cheerful! The staff is all respectful and polite. I had to wait 30-40 minutes from our table out front but we just went and grabbed a coffee before Sunday brunch. We will be back again

When you catch a beautiful day in Cape May, don't hesitate to walk along the water down to The Mad Batter for breakfast! Now of course everything tastes better when you're in love, and even better when you're in love in Cape May... But combine that with a morning chow down at The Mad Batter??? Well then...you may just have entered heaven! Don't be intimidated by the crowd waiting to go in, they move people fast as it is an enormous place. Also, if you're a couple you'll be seated quicker so consider spitting up your group if time is important. Get a window seat, and attack the menu. Jeanine

This is a cute little place to eat at! The menu is unique in that there are basics like sandwiches and then a nice heart supper like steaks, seafood, and pasta. We sat on the porch and it was wonderful. A smidge chilly but surprisingly not as cold as expected with all the windows open. The service was great and food delicious. There was specials for supper (soup and plates option). There were two menus for drinks - so something for everyone! The only thing that was slightly disappointing was the appetizer menu was small - but we ended up with bread and soup and that quickly satisfied us. There

Always the best. My only issue was that I liked everything on the menu and it takes time to decide. The server, Sue, was attentive even when my Mom called and I had to take the call (she's 91). I got the Lobster omelette over my usual Chesapeake Eggs Benedict. Excellent service, decor, and of course food.
