Attorney Profile
Report
My experience spans more than 30 years representing accident victims and injured workers, and litigating criminal and family law cases in Iowa, Missouri, Alabama and Florida. Over half of my practice is devoted to personal injury, representing victims of car, truck, motorcycle and work place injuries, slip and fall victims, and others injured by the fault of another.
Personal Injury
Report
Personal injuries and accidents can and do happen virtually everywhere. They often occur while driving, while shopping, while in the hospital, or simply when using a common appliance at home. Accidents frequently occur in the workplace, as a result of dangerous conditions or faulty equipment. In order to prevail in your personal injury case, it is essential to establish that your injuries were caused by the other party's negligence.
Criminal Defense
Report
For more than 30 years I have represented clients in state and federal courts across the country. My criminal law experience includes hundreds of trials, teaching criminal law courses at Graceland University, and training lawyers and judges in criminal trial techniques. I have successfully defended charges ranging from murder to traffic violations, obtaining dismissals, acquittals, charge reductions, and sentencing reductions.
Murder
Report
State of Alabama (1993). Client charged with capital murder 14 years after her husband's death when new testimony led prosecutor to believe she had killed her husband with arsenic. Our defense revealed weakness in state's case, and the capital murder charge was resolved by plea bargain resulting in a five-year prison sentence.
Visitation
Report
Iowa Code Sections 598.1(1) and 598.41(1) provide that, except in unusual circumstances, the best interests of the child require the "maximum continuing physical and emotional contact with both parents".

Thus, Iowa courts have considered liberal visitation rights to be in a child's best interest, and courts are encouraged to avoid restrictions or conditions on a parent's opportunity for continuing contact with a child following the dissolution of his or her parents. In re Marriage of Rykhoek, 525N.W.2d 1, 4 Iowa Ct.
