Helen Brown presents a body of new work in her recognizable watercolor batik style during the month of July. The show theme, In a Perfect World. I have been thinking a lot about our present situation with the pandemic, racial inequality, climate change, and at-risk youth. I do not claim to have any answers.

Find a quiet trail that follows a creek up a steep or gentle grade, through a rocky canyon or a lush forest. The cascades might be tumultuous and heart-pounding, or gentle and mesmerizing. Always beckoning, these places become a refuge, inviting contemplation and sparking inspiration. Through color, mark-making, fluidity, and unexpected viewpoints, Anne Gibson conveys the force and tranquility of these mesmerizing flows.
Sarah B. Hansen
Report
Our June show features a new collection of acrylic and mixed media paintings and from local artist Sarah B Hansen. Inspired by her Pacific Northwest hikes, and witnessing the increasing challenges of human impact on wilderness areas, Sarah has created this selection of new work to focus both on what it means to experience the unaffected wilderness, and how we may consider a more nurturing role in the caring of our wild spaces.

Eventually, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it. The river was cut by the world's great flood and runs over rocks from the basement of time. On some of the rocks are timeless raindrops. Under the rocks are the words, and some of the words are theirs. I am haunted by waters.

Just up from the Ferview bridge, following a trail that becomes more and more overgrown, I am transfixed by the water running over and through troughs worn in the stone. And then the different colored stones, like a line of melody, in the fissure between slabs. The water is fairly low in mid-summer leaving them more exposed and glowing.
